Visa Requirements:

Citizens of the European Union, Switzerland, Andorra, Liechtenstein and Malta require an identity card in order to gain entry into Portugal. American and Canadian nationals may stay without a visa for up to 60 days with a valid passport. When this limit is exceeded, a fine is levied in accordance with the number of days in excess of the limit.
The passport must be valid for three months longer than the period of stay except in the case of countries from the European Union and the European Economic Area.
Citizens from other countries require both a visa and a valid passport. For more detailed information, you should consult the Embassies services within your country.

Emergency:

Dial 112 for an emergency; you will be connected to Fire, Police and Ambulance services. Chemists can give advice on simple health problems and suggest appropriate treatment. They are also permitted to sell many medicines without a doctors subscription. A green cross on white background denotes a chemist. A red cross on a white background denotes a "Red Cross" station. In many towns there are Emergency Treatment Centres (SAP) that will provide medical assistance 24 hours a day.

Currency:

The currency in Portugal is the Euro. Money can be changed at Banks, "Bureau de Change" (Cambio) or at one of the currency exchange machines in the streets. These facilities will offer a better rate than in Hotels. Visa and MasterCard are the most widely accepted cards.

Language:

English is the official language of the conference.

Electricity:

Electrical current is 220 volts; 50Hz. Socket type is standard European 2 round pin plug.

Standard operating hours apply for shops are; 10.00hrs – 12.30hrs & 14.30 – 19.00hrs Monday till Friday.
09.30 – 13.00hrs on Saturday
Closed on Sunday.
Shopping Centres – 10.00 – 23.00hrs daily.

Banking Hours:

Standard hours are 08.30 – 15.00hrs Monday to Friday.

Tipping:

It is customary to leave a 10% tip if the service has been good. Taxi drivers would normally expect you to round up the fare.

Porto in April has a maximum temperature of 18 º C and a minimum of 9 º C with 8 sunlight hours.
Light- to medium weight clothing and rainwear are advised.
